Lanark Tennis Club - Courts on the up!
After 18 months in the planning the Club are delighted to announce they have successfully secured funding to replace the current courts with Tiger Turf Advantage Pro (artificial grass) which many other courts use including Hamilton and Clarkston. Along with the court work remedial work will be carried out on the retaining wall (road side) and paint work on floodlight masts. Of course this amazing £68.7K project would not have happened without funding contributions from - The Renewable Energy Fund, Viridor and Levenseat Trust. Massive thanks to them and local funders, sponsors 3R Energy and Border Biscuits, and club members for help with fundraising. The work started on Monday, 26 October 2020 with the courts closed for approximately 4-6 weeks.
President Allyson Matthews said, “We are very fortunate to be able to continue the upgrade of our facilities here at Lanark Tennis Club. Our new clubhouse will soon face out onto first rate courts, fencing and floodlighting. We will be able to offer an excellent playing environment for our members and the local community who have supported us over the last few years.”
During Covid 19 and following LTA guidelines the club stayed open during the summer months and beyond with membership numbers on the up. Big thank you to the committee members who made this possible and in particular to their much valued cleaning services!
The club also took part in a scaled down West of Scotland League with 3 Mens and 1 Ladies team taking part add results?
Group coaching including Accessible Tennis sessions went ahead and were well attended despite restricted numbers.

Marie Burns, Founder of Accessible Tennis CIC, said: “Many activities for people with learning difficulties, and for those in recovery, are not taking place at present due to COVID-19. Fortunately, tennis is one of the few sports running as physical activity is important for good mental health. Accessible Tennis managed to run sessions at Lanark Tennis Club and has kept tennis progressing for Phoenix Futures in Glasgow. More resources are needed to keep this vital work going. If you would like to help, please consider becoming a supporter.”
Finally to end the season the championships took place on 19 September with some excellent matches albeit without family and friends to support the finalists.
As an outdoor activity with strict adherence to Covid 19 regulations we have had a relatively successful year.
